According to an article from KTLA 5 an officer said “[it] is an effective tool that helps make the streets safer." Can someone explain how citizens surrendering their firearms makes the streets safer? Criminals do not surrender their weapons because they need them to apply their trade. Gun buybacks simply increase the odds in favor of the criminal.

Often we hear how buybacks get the guns off the street thus implying that the guns are coming from criminals. Let’s set the record straight. Buybacks do not come from the street, they come from homes of law abiding citizens who have decided they do not want them any longer.

People have the right to engage in a buyback program but do not be fooled that the streets are safer.
